Published March 28, 2024, in my Medium column:
Writing about San Jose for years, I don’t have the time to get to the big city south of my home of San Francisco often, despite the fact that, like Oakland across the Bay, it completes our Tri-City hub of major cities and can be merely 50 minute drive away. San Jose (SJ) is the city of Silicon Valley, a tech and arts mainstay, with two million residents just in San Jose–Sunnyvale–Santa Clara Metropolitan Statistical Area alone.
SJ is wildly diverse, being far more Asian (roughly 38%) and Hispanic/Latin (31%) than it is white/caucasian (23%). This population reflects in the region’s eateries, heavy on great taquerias, Indian and Vietnamese spots, but as diverse as the rest of the Bay Area. It’s far from the cutting edge dining mecca SF is, but a great meal and drink is always to be had. While you visit overnight for a concert or show or 8 miles from downtown SJ for a 49ers game in Santa Clara, here are places to stay, eat and drink now.
