“… creation comes from an overflow, so you have to learn to intake, to imbibe, to nourish yourself and not be afraid of fullness. The fullness is like a tidal wave which then carries you, sweeps you into experience and into writing.

Permit yourself to flow and overflow, allow for the rise in temperature, all the expansions and intensifications. Something is always born of excess: great art was born of great terrors, great loneliness, great inhibitions, instabilities, and it always balances them… you move in a world of mysteries. But both must be ruled by faith.” — The Diary of Anais Nin, Vol. 4: 1944-1947

A magical evening walk along the Seine last week in Paris

My shot from a magical evening walk along the Seine last week in Paris

I’m just back from one of the best trips of my life in Cognac and Paris — which is saying a lot, given the unreal trips I’ve been blessed with in abundance. After one sweet week home, I am off again to Charleston, one of the great romantic cities of the South, which I am thrilled to return to 7 years later.

Having come back from Paris literally four days after the horrors that I have gone down this week, I am shaken and deeply saddened for the wonderful people there, humbly grateful to be home and more than aware much of the world faces such atrocities daily (and it could be any one of us at any time). What a reminder to live with eyes wide open and to cherish each gift of beauty and the people we come in contact with — and who remain by us — each day.

Among my recent projects: many industry folk nationally were involved in the selection of Liquor.com‘s list of 173 national bars that matter most now — I quite enjoyed being a part of writing and pulling together this huge project.
