As one of the most idyllic places on earth — NorCal’s Wine Country — is suffering untold horror, my heart breaks.

For 16 years, the region north of my city has been “home away from home,” where I’ve spent hundreds of days savoring the countryside, meeting up with countless friends, winemakers, distillers and at restaurants and wineries across Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino. And where I’ve long dreamed of retiring.

I am overwhelmed by the loss and devastation — and truly inspired by the heroism happening everywhere in my beloved region, from those who have lost so much to those doing everything they can to help. I head to my old stomping grounds of LA this week for more research, but my heart and prayers remain here at home.
