“We get such a kick out of looking forward to pleasures and rushing ahead to meet them that we can’t slow down enough to enjoy them when they come… There is indeed such a thing as ‘timing’ — the art of mastering rhythm — but timing and hurrying are… mutually exclusive.”
— Alan Watts, Does It Matter?

Fantastic beet pimento on toasts at an intimate preview of NINEBARK and food from chef Matt Lightner, an exciting downtown Napa opening tentatively set for late September
An invigorating weekend of reflection in the redwoods by a river and along the dramatic coastal cliffs of Big Sur was just what I needed to usher in the fall with renewed vision despite the incessant workload. This last month has been particularly strong on restaurant openings and tastes so it’s a content-packed issue.
This issue:
Top Tastes – Top 10 Dishes of the Month: From SF to Oakland, I’m getting excited about veal sweetbread tacos, a katsu-drowned fried chicken torta and miso peach sticky buns, to name a few.
Imbiber – The Top 10 Spirits Releases of the Summer: There are new whiskies, rums, agricole, vermouths, gin and even cinnamon liqueur to please a range of palates.
The Latest – High-Tech, Cash-Less, Healthy, Cheap Fast Food? Enter eatsa.
As your personal concierge who tells it like a good friend would, I also create personalized itineraries: trips, meals, explorations (under “Services“).
