In my latest Time Out column, I talk San Jose.
With a population of just over a million, San Jose is our largest NorCal city, anchoring Silicon Valley with a diverse community of more than 30% (each) Hispanic and Asian populations. This means stellar cheap eats, family-run restaurants and eateries in wide-ranging cuisine categories, even as upscale or cutting-edge restaurants are not competitive with Oakland, much less San Francisco.
But locals know the gems and that the city boasts rare fare like Portuguese or Austrian food. Here are 10 of SJ’s best:
