I’m in Hawaii for a long stint of research this month, a place I normally regularly return to (and write about), but am four years behind on, thanks to pandemic. Fresh off visiting 40+ places in food and drink in Honolulu (yes, articles forthcoming), I went on to the Big Island for a slower pace, though still digging into food, drink and at a rum distillery and sugar cane fields. Per usual, friends new and old have made this visit incredible, deepening the long deep ties I’ve always felt on these one-of-a-kind islands with one-of-a-kind cuisine.
