Hibiscus in Oakland prepares a sweet spread at SF Chefs Sugar & Spice Party (see On the Town)
August has been a non-stop flurry of major SF events: SF Chefs, our city’s biggest food & drink week (which I give the photo recap treatment in On the Town), and Outside Lands, a massive music festival in Golden Gate Park, where I spent the last three days seeing everyone from Muse and Arcade Fire, to the Roots and Erykah Badu (my Outside Lands food & wine pairing article was in last week’s print issue of the Guardian).

I filled in as Guest Editor for Eater during the first week of August, and Guest Editor for Grubstreet one day last week, plus two more this week.
On the Town, part two, prepares for this Saturday’s 3rd annual SF Street Food Festival (thankfully, only one day), with highlights I tasted at a preview dinner.
Imbiber showcases the promise I taste in Ian Adams’ cocktails at Orson, plus Orson’s special “Hotel California” menu. We then try a new British gin from the world’s first known female gin master distiller.
I’d love your feedback on any spots visited from my site. As your personal concierge who tells it to you like a good friend would, I also create personalized itineraries: trips, meals, explorations (under “Services“).
Let me guide you to the perfect spot,
Virginia
