Arquet: SF Ferry Building’s New Destination Restaurant from a Michelin-Star Chef

Sorrel topped my new restaurants of 2018 and I’ve raved about it since, unsurprised when it garnered — and has maintained — a Michelin star. Chef Alex Hong has a visionary way with creative pastas and just about everything else, including Sorrel’s rightly famed duck. So delighted I was when Hong and team opened Arquet in October 2025, in the former Slanted Door space, no less.

Water views and outside seating gazing over the Bay are idyllic at lunch or taking in the twinkling lights of the Bay Bridge at night. But the expansive space is a surprise: glowing creams and whites center a massive open kitchen and wood-burning hearth in a space that bustles and flows. This is Hong and crew on a different level. Where Sorrel is intimate, soothing and inventive, Arquet is massive, sexy but in a soft, creamy-white way, with buzzing energy in its large San Francisco Ferry Building location.
